Catholic convert, husband and father of seven, nurse and nursing instructor.

First, faith. I was drawn to Catholicism as an adult after encountering the writings of G.K. Chesterton and Dorothy Day. The joy of being received into the Church – Deo gratias! – was only slightly tempered by the next nine years of struggling to settle on a vocational trajectory. When I met Nancy, the struggle concluded. We married, and we’re so grateful God has blessed us with a vanload of kids.

After becoming a father, I shifted my professional focus from religious education to healthcare. I went to nursing school, and, as an RN, I worked in oncology and hospice care before returning to school to become a nurse educator.

Now I’m a professor at Saint Mary’s College, Indiana, where I have the happy privilege of teaching nursing with an integrated faith perspective.

Carol received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and her BSN and MSN from Saginaw Valley State University. She has previous experience as a staff nurse and nurse manager in SICU/CCU and as clinical faculty for community health nursing including parish nursing. She has served in faculty positions at SVSU, U of M-Flint and U of M-Ann Arbor and has published research on factors influencing physical activity in aging populations. Carol is commissioned as a Lay Ecclesial Minister for the Diocese of Saginaw, MI and serves her parish as a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.

Andrea Flewelling, MSN, RN, proudly represents the great state of Ohio. Baptized and raised Catholic along Ohio’s north coast, Andrea continues to live and serve within the Diocese of Toledo.

Nursing is Andrea’s second career. After marrying and starting her family, she felt called to return to school and pursue nursing at Firelands Regional Medical Center’s School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at a local hospital, where she gained experience in the Digestive Health and Pain Management Unit and later in the Quality Department.

Andrea continued her education at Ohio University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and then at Chamberlain University, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Nurse Education.

Since August 2021, Andrea has served as an Assistant Teaching Professor at Bowling Green State University, where she enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for nursing with the next generation of nurses.

Faith and service are also central to Andrea’s life. She volunteers with her tri-parish Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program as co-chair, helping others grow in their faith and welcoming those who are exploring or entering the Catholic Church.

Andrea has been actively involved with NACN-USA for the past several years, serving in a variety of roles. Her involvement has included committee work for the National Eucharistic Conference table, and the National NACN-USA Conference at Madonna University, and attended the Regional Conference at Molloy University. She is also honored to co-advise one of the newest NACN-USA School-based Councils at Bowling Green State University.

Barbara Wilson, MSN, RN
Regional Director
Tucson, AZ

Hello, I’m Barbara Wilson. I was born and raised in Southern California. In 2000, my husband and I moved to Arizona to start a family. We have two beautiful children, a daughter and a son in that order. They are now young adults starting their own careers and moving into their next chapters of life.

I became a nurse in 2013 after graduating from Scottsdale Community College with an associate degree ion nursing (ADN). I started my career as a Pediatric Home Health nurse. During that time, I completed my bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2014. Shortly after, I transitioned to the in-patient acute care setting on a Progressive Care Unit as a bedside nurse and eventually became a nurse manager. I have since completed my master’s degree with emphasis in nursing leadership and transitioned to a nurse case manager position. My journey has allowed me to see many sides of nursing, all of which I am thankful for.
