President's Message October 2026

Published: October 3, 2026

Isabella O’Donnell is our 2026 Eula Sforza Scholarship recipient. An undergraduate nursing student at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, Isabella stated, ‘Saint Teresa of Calcutta famously said, “give your hands to serve, and your hearts to love.” I take inspiration in my roles from Saint Teresa, and her quiet dedication not only to our Lord, but to the service of others. She embodied faith, compassion, and dedication, all qualities that Catholic nurses should strive for, and those which I hold myself to.’ Faculty added that Isabella exemplifies service, faith, leadership and excellence honoring Eula Sforza’s legacy. Isabella serves as the school of nursing’s undergraduate assistant, is the event coordinator for the school, and she is a tutor for junior nursing students. Congratulations Isabella!

The committee would also like to acknowledge all of the scholarship applicants. It was particularly inspiring to read how students are vigorously living out their Catholic faith in the midst of their work and studies. Also impressive were their overall academic achievements, leadership accomplishments, and tremendous support from academic and pastoral leaders. A seamless theme of respect for the dignity of human life and the understanding that nursing is a vocation at the service of God were frequently expressed. We applaud all those who invested precious time to complete their applications and affirm the significance of their Catholic faith as they navigate educational and career challenges. Be assured of our prayers and support for all of you!
