From the President’s Desk:

Blessings to all of you. I am so grateful that you for all our leaders and members in the association.

Being a member in NACN-USA has brought more joy and growth as a Catholic Nurse. I joined because I was looking for a like-minded organization that would support me as a nurse who was beginning to face controversial issues in my practice as a geriatric nurse. But I found, that all I really got out of it was a credible entry on my resume. I never really got involved.

Presenting at the World Congress in Doylestown, PA and helping with registration introduced me to many of the members and leaders in the association. Shortly after that I was appointed as the Regional Director for the West Coast States and territories. It was not long after that I ended up in leadership positions as the President elect and now President. I did not seek these positions but left it to the Holy Spirit to put me in the right place at the right time. I was nudged along the way but tried to discount those nudges.

What I have found on this journey is many wonderful Catholic Nurses who integrate their faith in their nursing practice. They are not nurses who happen to be Catholic. They are Catholic Nurses in every sense of the word. I have made many lasting friendships. I have met nurses from around the world and have seen the power of their commitment to the International Association as well as the National Association.

My only regret is that I did not find the association sooner and get more involved from the beginning. So, I invite you all to consider how you can have an impact and make a difference. We need volunteers as we are growing. Here are our priorities:

  • Corresponding Secretary: This position comes open at the next election January, but I would like to appoint someone to fill in until then. It involves monitoring our email and forwarding them to the right person.
  • Coordinating student members from schools that do not have a school council: We want these students to feel connected to us so they will remain members once they graduate.
  • Committees: Email me to set up a time to talk about where your strengths lie and how you can best serve the Association nacnPresident@gmail.com
